The Ice Storm of 2010

A Town pulling Together

The 28th of January a freezing rain hit the town of Blair breaking tree limbs, snapping power lines, and breaking power line poles in a domino effect. Over 600 poles were downed in this area. Blair was without power for almost a week in Blair. In rural areas some would be out for a month.

Dennis Davis and the Blair Volunteer Fire Dept. responded quickly to the situation. The fire station was designated as an emergency shelter by the Town Council, and set up the Fire Station to feed the ones who were without electricity and unable to prepare a meal.

We extend a special thanks to all the volunteers that were involved in the preparation and serving of the meals. Cathy Roberts took charge of the meals. We would like to list all the volunteers, but we don't want to offend anyone by leaving their names off. So just know ladies that all of you are appreciated. Everyone worked together and did a wonderful job.

Food was contributed by people of Blair, The Red Cross, Churches, and FEMA supplied a large power unit to supply electricity to the Fire Station.

The people of Blair or to be commended for pulling together as quickly as they did, making it possible for a town to survive an unexpected crisis such as this.

We would like to commend all the people who worked so diligently, going into harms way to restore power as fast and efficiently as they did.
